There are three different ways to post usages tied to subscriptions prior to invoicing them. Usages may be posted:
- Via Import
- Via API
- Manually
Via import
To learn how to import usages, go to this guide on importing usages.
Via API
To feed usages directly into SubscriptionFlow through API integration contact support at support@subscriptionflow.com.
Manually
1. To manually add usages for a customer, first configure the Usages list. Click on 'Configure'.
2. Shift Usages from Unselected to the Selected List. Then click 'Save'.
3. Then click '+ Usage' from the Usages list.
4. Select one of this customer's subscriptions from the dropdown. The dropdown will only show subscriptions with usage based charges.
5. Next, select the charge. A subscription plan may be tied to multiple usage based charges e.g. usage of feature 1, usage of feature 2 etc. Select the charge this usage corresponds to from the dropdown.
6. Next add the usage quantity, as well as, the start and end date to define the duration of the usage. Click ‘Save’.
7. A new usage has been created for the customer, tied to one of their subscriptions, and a particular usage charge within that subscription plan. When the customers next bill date arrives, if the billing duration matches the usage duration listed here, this usage is automatically added to the invoice generated.
8. You can also create and manage usaged from the Usages module where all usage data is listed.
9. Scroll to the far right to check the status of each usage which may be Pending or Processed. The former means this usage period is yet to be billed and the latter means that an invoice with this usage data has already been generated.
