Tax Each Line Item of a Subscription Separately

A subscription can contain several plans. Each line item is taxed using the tax set on its own plan price, so one subscription can carry different taxes on different lines. Invoices show the tax for every line and the total tax for the invoice.

Before You Start

• Create your taxes under Settings → Administration Settings → Taxes.
• Make each plan price taxable and assign its tax. See Make a Plan Price Taxable.

Create the Subscription

1. Go to the Subscriptions module and click Create.
2. Select the Customer.

3. Under Products & Plans, click Add, then choose the Product and Plan for the first line item.
4. Click Add again for each additional plan.
5. Click Save, review the subscription display name, and click Confirm.

Note: Tax is not shown on the Create Subscription form. It is calculated when the invoice is generated.

Review the Tax on the Invoice

1. Go to the Invoices module and open the invoice generated for the subscription.
2. Under Products & Plans, the Tax column shows the tax for each line item.

3. Click More details to see Total Tax. It is the sum of the tax on every line.

Good to Know

• A line item whose plan price is not taxable is invoiced without tax.
• To change the tax on a line for future subscriptions, edit the plan price. See Make a Plan Price Taxable.
